The main reason behind the HIPAA regulations being established was to protect the integrity and security of health information, including protecting against unauthorised use or disclosure of the information. According to the Act, it states that a security management process must exist in order to protect against “attempted or successful unauthorised access, use, disclosure, modification, or interference with system operations”.
