Minister Kelleher Announces €9.2m in New Business for Irish Companies in Russia
The Minister for Trade and Commerce Mr Billy Kelleher T.D. today (08/09/10) announced that contracts and agreements for new export sales valued at over €9.2m were concluded by Enterprise Ireland client companies during this week’s trade and investment mission to Russia.
Irish technology companies Digisoft, Adaptive Mobile, OpenJaw and Norkom Technologies were among those that announced new sales deals while academic institutions Trinity College Dublin and Dublin Institute of Technology announced partnership agreements with Russian third-level institutions.
Making the announcement, Minister Kelleher said: “Exporting success is critical to Ireland’s economic future. It is significant overseas sales by Irish companies that secure and create employment back home in Ireland.
“Russia is an important emerging market for Irish technology and services. I am very pleased that the work of this mission has contributed towards an additional €9.2m in Russian business for Irish-owned companies. Furthermore, this mission will have laid an important foundation for the future further development of the Ireland-Russia trading relationship.”
Chief Executive of Enterprise Ireland Frank Ryan added: “Enterprise Ireland is dedicated to helping Irish companies bring their products and services to new export markets. Russia is Europe’s largest emerging market and the success of this mission verifies that Irish products and services are well matched to Russian market demands.
“The work we have done this week, in highlighting Irish products and services to Russian businesses, has further built Ireland’s reputation in this important high-growth market. Over the coming months, we will build on the achievements of this week and further grow Irish exports to Russia over 2010.”
30 top Irish firms, from a range of sectors including ICT, engineering, construction, food and drink, education and business services participated in the mission this week which was organised by Enterprise Ireland, to coincide with President Mary McAleese’s visit to Russia.
Russia is Europe’s largest emerging market. Irish exports to the country grew by over 66pc in the first five months of this year. Ireland is the seventh largest provider of foreign direct investment to Russia ahead of the US and Japan.
Among the deals announced during the mission were: Norkom and IBM announced an agreement with VTB Bank, to provide the bank with market-leading financial crime and compliance solutions on an IBM software platform designed to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
Adaptive Mobile Security Ltd , a Dublin based global leader in securing next generation converged telecom networks , announced they were selected by Vimplecom to supply its world class product suite to secure Vimplecoms customers and its network. OpenJaw Technologies announced the completion of phase two of their contract with Russia's newest online travel agency Amargo.ru.
Digisoft.tv Ltd, a Cork-based global provider of carrier class solutions to the IPTV and media & entertainment markets, announced an extension of its contract with Personal Media Technology (PMT) to provide its DigiHost Service Delivery Platform for the delivery of terrestrial TV channels to TV viewers in Russia.
